What I really like about the quote is the encouragement to go down dead ends. they're not failures, they're simply territory to explore. thx

Great post, Jade. I definitely won't be entering any of their contests.

And I'm glad that our local chapter is so supportive :)

Thanks, Sable. I agree! I've judged a number of contests and I don't have to personally like everything that I judge. I think I'm professional enough to take my personal preferences or beliefs out of it and judge a book on its own merits. And if I think I can't, then it's up to me to find a judge that will. There's an entire chapter of writers of LGBT romances who would be willing to step in and volunteer.

Well said, Sheila! There are definitely things that make me uncomfortable (ditto on horror stories), but the simplest solution is to find a judge that is comfortable reading it... Maybe I'm making it too simple.

I don't write gay romance...but...and its a very big but...I think there is no room in our industry for this kind of discrimination. I find it inappropriate and offensive. I'm uncomfortable with slut heroines...but they are there in the industry and I have to read and publish them...so I leave personal likes out and think about what sells...duh. What? Next no werewolf sex and no menage...there goes my money too. It wasn't too long ago that ANYONE writing ANY KIND of romance was considered a slut. So are we going back to barefoot preggers and apron strings?
